Ford recalls 20,000 cars in the US market

Ford US declared on 30th December that the US auto giant is recalling as many as 20,000 new Ford cars due a the defect in the car which can cause fire. The recall will be applied to the Edge sports utility vehicles, F-series pickups and the Lincoln MKX. Ford Motors also had a downfall in its market shares by one quarter.

Other than the recalls, Ford is busy in its homeground auto market as it plans to introduce a new fuel saving technology in its cars. The auto giant is planning to retrieve its momentum in the US auto market by coming with a new technique in the hybrid car models which are already used by the other auto giants in their hybrid car models too.

With the introduction of the new technique, it help in saving fuel by 4 per cent and also cut on emissions. After the technology is affixed in its cars, it will help in automatically switching off the car engine at the stop light without closing other applications such as air conditioning or heating and others. This technique will help greatly in saving the environment as well as will provide drivers comfort. The company auto plans to introduce the technology in all its cars and vehicles across globe but initially in the North American auto market.

In India Ford has been gaining its due momentum in India. This year saw an entry of an all new hatchback Ford Figo from the auto giants in the most popular and crowded segment of the Indian car market. This low priced, advanced featured and stylish car helped the maker to enjoy a meaty chunk in the domestic auto market. Apart from the hatchback the company sells its car in sedan ans SUV segment. These are Ford Fiesta, New Ford Ikon and Ford Endeavour. By 2011, the company also expects to increase its portfolio by introducing Ford Mondeo by April in a price band of Rs 17 lakh.

2010, has witnessed continues recalls in the auto market. The auto mobile manufacturers called back a total of around 20 million units with Toyota acquiring the top position. The Japanese auto giant this year recalled 7.1 million cars to fix the defective gas pedals and the floor mat which can trap accelerators, faulty braking systems and the stalling engines.
