General Motors India is counted amongst most well-known and famous car manufacturers in India today. According to the reports, General Motors India has cut down its sales goal for 2011 because of sky rocketing fuel prices and interest rates. If SIAM figures are taken into account, the June sales of the country’s domestic cars managed to grow by merely 1.6% when compared to the year of 2010. Mr. P. Balendran also told that General Motors India is expecting to sell approximately 4,500 units of Chevrolet Beat diesel every month.

Last year, General Motors India witnessed sales of around 110,804 cars and in the year of 2011 General Motors India was expecting the car sales of around 160,000 units, but now this American car manufacturer has cut down its sales target to 140,000 vehicles. The major reason behind this cut down is because of the sky rising fuel prices and interest rates. This slashing info was given by the VP of General Motors India, Mr. P. Balendran.

The slashing in the sales target is done in spite of the extra sales that are likely to come from the new Chevrolet Beat diesel hatchback car, which has been launched in India.  On Tuesday, the RBI hiked the repo rate from 7.5% to 8%.

However, General Motors expected the car sales in 2011 to be enlarged by 50% instead of 59.16% that was in the year of 2010. The expectations of car sales have gone down to 20 to 30%. Conversely, May sales of General Motors increased by 1.3%, which means it managed to sell 8329 units. Even SIAM or Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers trimmed the growth expectations to 10 to 12% for the domestic car sales in 2011-12. This percentage was 16 to 18% earlier, reason being higher fuel prices and interest rates.
