GM India to start export from Talegaon Plant

The American manufacturer - General Motors India, announced that they will roll on the export vehicles onto the production lines from their Talegaon manufacturing facility by second half of 2014. The export will start from the first quarter of 2015 marking the export era for GM India. Beat will be the first product to be exported from early next year. Chile will be the first country to get Indian made left hand drive Beat hatchback.
Commenting on the announcement Arvind Saxena, President and Managing Director, GM India,“The start of Beat exports underlines GM’s commitment to India and demonstrates the quality of the country’s growing supplier base,” he further added, “The exports will create more employment opportunities within GM India and the supplier community while helping improve capacity utilization at the Talegaon Plant.”
General Motors India will join the increasing list of exporters in the country, namely, Hyundai, Ford, Maruti Suzuki, Nissan, Renault, etc. Exporting cars will help the company to exploit the manufacturing plant's to its optimum potential, furthermore, it will also generate more employment in the country. Exporting leads to world class manufacturing, thus the part supplier and vendors will have to be on par with the international standards when it comes to quality. In turn it will certainly help in making quality products both for domestic and international market.
Speaking of Beat, the car has recently received a mid life facelift couple of months ago in India. Though the facelift was not radical enough but indeed it has freshen up the vehicle. The upgraded Beat features new 'dual port' grille, tweaked bumper and new fog lamp housing with chrome inserts. At the rear, the car offers jewel finish tail lamps and new two tone sporty bumper with reflectors. Apart from this, the vehicle sports new upholstery, steering mounted audio controls and elusive changes to the interiors. The car comes in diesel and petrol - SMARTECH engine options. The diesel is a 3-cylinder 1.0 liter XSDE SMARTECH motor (an iteration of 1.3 Multi-Jet) churning out 57.7bhp and 150Nm of max torque. The petrol is a 4-cylinder 1.2 liter SMARTECH II engine developing 79.4bhp and 108Nm of peak torque. Beat diesel is also one of the most fuel efficient car in the country with a certified mileage of 25.44kmpl. The petrol counterpart has a certified mileage of 18.6kmpl.
