Here’s A Detailed Look At The Base-spec Sigma Variant Of The New Maruti Grand Vitara

Maruti recently announced the prices for its new compact SUV, the 2022 Grand Vitara, and deliveries are already underway. It’s offered in six broad trims: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Zeta+, Alpha, and Alpha+. After spending time with the top-spec mild-hybrid and strong hybrid variants, we take a closer look at the base-spec Sigma trim in these photos.

Despite being the entry-level variant, the Sigma doesn’t get any major visual differences on its exterior compared to the next-in-line Delta trim. Up front, Maruti has provided it with a body-coloured bumper, LED DRLs and halogen projector headlights.

On the sides, it features body-coloured door handles and 17-inch steel wheels with covers. At the back, it was seen with LED taillights and the ‘Grand Vitara’ and ‘mild-hybrid’ badges. The two models spotted were finished in the Grandeur Grey and NEXA Blue shades. Other exterior colour options of the SUV are Arctic White, Chestnut Brown, Opulent Red, and Splendid Silver.

Inside, the Sigma variant also gets the black and maroon cabin theme as other mild-hybrid trims. That said, it does miss out on an infotainment or a basic music system altogether and even the chrome accents on the gear lever. You still get the same free-standing plastic housing  on the dashboard for the infotainment system offered in higher trims.

Maruti has provided it with fabric seats, push-button start/stop, auto AC with rear vents, steering-mounted audio and calling controls, and all power windows. The Sigma variant’s safety net includes dual front airbags, electronic stability programme (ESP), ISOFIX child seat anchorages, and rear parking sensors.

The Grand Vitara’s Sigma trim gets only a 1.5-litre, mild-hybrid petrol engine (103PS/137Nm), paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Other mild-hybrid equipped trims come with an optional six-speed automatic, while the top-spec Alpha is provided with the option of Suzuki’s all-wheel drivetrain (AWD) but only with the MT shifter. Maruti offers the Zeta+ and Alpha+ trims of the SUV with a strong-hybrid powertrain coupled to an e-CVT, making 116PS (combined).

Priced between Rs 10.45 lakh and Rs 19.65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the 2022 Maruti Grand Vitara is part of a hotly contested segment which consists of the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and MG Astor.
