Honda City losing its sheen in India, Volkswagen Vento sales rise

Honda City seems to be losing its grip over the mid-size car segment in India. As per recent sales trends, Volkswagen Vento is ahead of Honda City. Honda City presumably literally rules this segment in India for long and it is for the first time that it has a contender. Three reasons primarily pop out that could have done the damage to Honda City, first, Honda seems to have fell short of pricing its car as compared to Vento. Secondly, it seems that the German car maker has done some really aggressive marketing than the Japanese. Third, it is obviously the fuel that has played a spoilsport for Honda cars. It is the result of these three factors that the Honda City had to face reduced sales.

The diesel variant of Volkswagen Vento price in India is Rs8.03 lakh ex-showroom in New Delhi compared to petrol driven Honda City price in India which is Rs8.15 lakh ex-showroom in New Delhi. According to detailed comparative sales reports of the Volkswagen Vento and Honda City, Vento sales managed to climb up and up in just eight months since launch giving tough fight to the Japanese car brand City. Notably, Honda City has entered thirteenth year in India. Also, 6839 Volkswagen Ventos were sold in March and April alone compared to 4,315 units of Honda City cars sold in the same period. With such figures intact, the Volkswagen Vento becomes the most successful European car in India.

As per the information revealed by the sources in just two years Volkswagen has managed to capture two percent share of the 87,500 crore Indian car market. Volkswagen has almost entered every segment in India. Volkswagen has its Volkswagen Polo in the hatchback segment, the luxury segment car Volkswagen Jetta, a close rival of Toyota Corolla and the Volkswagen Passat. Neeraj Garg, Director Volkswagen Group Sales has also reportedly credited the increased sales to deliverance of global quality at local prices.
