Despite tremendous bookings for Honda Siel cars, the auto major is unable to make the deliveries on time due to the typhoon in Thailand. Thailand is the major auto hub for the Japanese manufacturer from where the components are supplied to its other manufacturing units to roll out the cars. The company has to apparently rely on other countries like China and Japan for the components supply. The recently launched Honda Brio and the relaunched Honda Jazz are the two cars that are majorly affected by the shortage of component supply.

Honda faces delivery issues due to excessive parts shortage

The auto major currently stands at 6000 bookings for Honda Brio and 4000 bookings for Honda Jazz. The company claims to have delivered 1000 models of Honda Brio so far and envisages continuing the production despite the grim situation. Moreover, Honda India informed that they have relayed the probable delay of the cars to the customers to avoid any inconvenience. Jnaneswar Sen, a senior Vice-president of Honda Siel cars has informed that their Thailand manufacturing unit supplies the underbody parts and the electronic components for its cars, which are under severe shortage of supply. However, they are looking at alternative methods like increased localisation to avoid imports.

They cannot depend on the Indian vendors as of now as they might not be able to supply them on time, which leaves them with an option importing components from China and Japan.  But, in any case they have decided to carry on with the production. Unfortunately, the company is facing the component supply constraints for the second time due to the occurrence of Tsunami in Japan during March, this year. The shortage of components are said to affect the launch of Honda CR-V facelift and Honda City facelift, which are now postponed to 2012 January in contrary to the earlier decided time frame. Honda India, in order to ramp up the sales for its flagship sedan Honda City, had offered major discounts up to 1000 units to ramp up its sales.

Despite, the overwhelming response since its price cut-down, the company is offering a mid-life facelift to Honda City with a minor changes including few cosmetic changes on the exteriors and slight changes in the interiors. The new ECO system for one is said to come in the new Honda City, which indicates the shortage of fuel in the tank once it reaches the reserve limit. On the other hand, the Honda CR-V facelift looks more or less similar to the concept car sharing majority of the resemblance with Volvo XC90. The SUV has a redesigned fascia with a trapezoidal grille. The car appears to be slightly overgrown in comparison with the current model. The new Honda CR-V is expected to be launched in India by mid-2012.
