Hyundai Motor India sales jump 17 per cent

Hyundai Motor India, the second largest carmaker of the country, today reported a jump of 17.21 per cent at 28,601 units in its domestic sales for the month of August 2010. In August 2009, the company had sold 24,401 units in the domestic market, said HMIL (Hyundai Motor India Ltd) in a statement. The total sales of Hyundai Motor India raised by 2.25 per cent at 50,636 units while it was 49,521 units an year-ago during the same period. However, the exports of the company came down by 12.28 per cent to 22,035 units from 25,120 units in the same period an year-ago. The company sold 45,804 units in its A2 segment (Santro, i10 and i20). In the A3 segment (Accent and Verna)the company’s sales were at 4,806 units. The A5 segment (Sonata Transform) of HMIL reported  sales of 26 units whereas its SUV Tucson received no buyer during the month. Mr Saxena also added that, to meet the increased demand in the domestic market, Hyundai Motor India Ltd is changing its production mix. Hyundai would be soon launching its SUV the Santa Fe during this Diwali which should further help its sales chart to some extent. The i20 also received a minor refresh with integrated indicators on the wing mirrors and a 6 speed manual transmission on the top end CRDI variant.
