Hyundai, an ace player in small car segment is likely to take a plunge in the SUV segment in future. Apparently, the auto major is soon to unveil a concept SUV at the upcoming Auto Expo in New Delhi. It is the sub four meter length of the compact Hyundai SUV that gave the goose bumps to the nearest rivals. As with the under four meter length vehicles, one can easily assume the engine size to be around 1.2 L for the petrol motor and 1.5 L capacity for the diesel powertrain. The pricing is going to be one advantage for the auto major as the 8% reduction on excise duty will definitely come-in handy for a sub-4 meter length vehicle.

The Korean auto major had clearly mentioned about their expansion plans for the country for next five years. The new concept is likely to be one of the many models lined-up for India. The SUV segment in the country is slowly getting heated up with almost each manufacturer today has one utility vehicle slated up for a launch in 2012. Mahindra and Mahindra has Mahindra Xylo Mini, Ford Ecosport from the American car manufacturer and a new concept SUV from Maruti is already there on the cards. However, it’s going to take a while before Hyundai India finally launches the new concept in India.

One can easily say that Hyundai has literally no presence in the SUV segment until now. Hyundai Tucson is the only SUV so far in the country which makes up for its namesake presence in India. The Korean car manufacturer has the revamped version of Hyundai Sonata slated for 2012 launch apart from the Hyundai Avante next on the cards. To have a quick refresh, the Avante is the globally offered Elantra model which is phased out in India sometime back.
