Hyundai’s next launch for India will be the micro SUV (AX1), which could be named ‘Casper’. It is likely to be launched in South Korea first, followed by India, possibly in 2022.
The upcoming micro SUV has been spied in South Korea multiple times, revealing certain design elements. Going by the spy shots, it gets a rectangular grille with triangle inserts, a split-headlamp setup, sporty alloy wheels, roof rails, C-pillar mounted door handles, rear fog lamps, and a roof-mounted spoiler.
Being a Hyundai, expect it to be packed with premium features, such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, automatic AC, a rear parking camera, and LED lighting.
Hyundai might offer the AX1 with the same powertrains as the Grand i10 Nios: 1.2-litre petrol (83PS/114Nm), 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (100PS/172Nm), and 1.2-litre diesel (75PS/190Nm). While a 5-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard across all engines, the petrol and diesel units get an optional 5-speed AMT.
The Hyundai Casper micro SUV is expected to retail from just under Rs 6 lakh. It will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Tata HBX, and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT.
