Jeep has revealed the all-new Compass SUV. This compact SUV is a global product by Jeep and will be launched in India in 2017. Unlike the Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee SRT and Wrangler Unlimited, which are priced above the reach of common Indian buyers, the Compass will be manufactured in India and will have a price tag of around Rs 23-25 lakh, making it Jeep’s mass SUV in the country. Although Jeep has planned ‘7 fuel-efficient powertrain options for consumers in more than 100 countries around the world’, the Compass will most likely get the 2.0-litre diesel motor in India.
The SUV looks like a baby Grand Cherokee, with a similar grille and headlamps. But the lines on the bonnet and the aggressive front bumper make the Compass stand out in the Jeep line-up. The side is highlighted by squared off wheel arches and a sloping roof line. What we really like is the way Jeep has merged the roofline with the boot, despite the car having a massive C-pillar. The metallic/matte line running on top of the windows goes on to underline the rear windscreen, giving the design a nice flow. At the rear, the SUV has a high loading lip and muscular creases which give it a masculine stance.
Inside, the SUV has Grand Cherokee-inspired interiors. The dashboard has an eight-inch touchscreen between the AC vents. The instrument cluster has a vehicle information display in the middle with a host of information. The centre console has a knob to switch between different drive modes like Snow, Sand, Mud, Roca and Auto. Also, there are buttons on the knob to select 4WD low if you get stuck in a muddy situation. The steering has buttons to control the phone, audio and adaptive cruise control and, along with the automatic transmission, the SUV has paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.
This SUV already has a huge fanbase here in India. And with an attractive price tag of around Rs 25 lakh, it is destined to be a massive hit in the Indian market. Have a look at the detailed image gallery and tell us your thoughts on the compact SUV.
