Volvo has finally unveiled its India-spec third-gen S60 sedan. While it was earlier scheduled to be launched in 2019, it will now go on sale in the first half of 2021. It is the same model that was globally revealed back in late-2018. Volvo will offer the sedan in only the T4 Inscription variant.
The third-gen S60 is underpinned by the same SPA platform as other Volvo models including its flagship sedan, the S90. Compared to the now discontinued model, the third-gen S60 is a much sharper and angular-looking sedan that can give its German rivals a run for their money. It gets Volvo’s latest signature LED DRLs, a sleeker front grille, and circular fog lamps in the front bumper. At the rear, Volvo has now equipped it with C-shaped LED tail lamps as seen on the S90.
On the inside, you can immediately make out it’s a Volvo given the typical minimalist cabin layout. Feature highlights include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Bowers and Wilkins music system, ambient lighting, and 4-zone climate control.
In terms of safety, the new S60 comes with the Pilot Assist system, Run-Off-Road protection and mitigation, City Safety, lane keep assist, and road sign information. While the Pilot Assist system helps the driver with steering, acceleration and braking at speeds up to 130kmph, the City Safety feature detects, alerts, and avoids collisions with vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals through autonomous braking up to 60kmph. Other safety features on offer are adaptive cruise control, cross traffic alert with brake support, and rear collision warning.
Volvo will offer the India-spec S60 in a petrol-only version. It will come with the XC40’s 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine rated at 190PS and 300Nm. It will come paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox that will drive the front wheels.
The third-gen S60 sedan is expected to be priced at Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom). Volvo has stated that bookings will commence in January and deliveries from March 2021. It will rival the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Jaguar XE, and the upcoming facelifted Audi A4.
