Workers at Maruti Suzuki India’s Manesar unit said they are willing to sign the good conduct bond, a prerequisite for entering the company premises, if the management takes back the suspended workers. The workers offered to compromise with Maruti Suzuki India after 3 employees were detained by the police on Sunday night. According to the police, three representatives of the workers — Sonu Gujjar, Shiv Kumar and Ravinder Kumar — have been detained as talks that started on Friday evening failed to yield any results. Maruti India has also called for an inquiry for some workers who even damaged cars in the protest.

Owing to this sustained logjam, the workers protesting at the Manesar plant agreed to the key demands of the company. Sunder Lal, who is the State President of the Hind Mazdoor Sabha, involved in the ongoing negotiations, said that the negotiations were now over the fate of the 62 suspended workers against whom Maruti has taken harsh action. He said the workers would sign the bond, if the company can slightly alter the language. The situation has become so worse that even the Labour Minister of Haryana; Shiv Charan Lal felt helpless over the issue and is unable to resolve the problem. He said Haryana is suffering a huge revenue loss every day because of the ongoing impasse. On Friday and Saturday, Sharma held talks with the company’s management and workers of the Manesar plant along with representatives of Maruti India’s recognized union-Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union (MUKU),but a result proved elusive.

Now, Kuldeep, President of MUKU has agreed that the workers were ready to compromise and can take back some of their demands. According to him Maruti India has suspended 29 workers, terminated 18 trainees and dismissed another 15 regular workers. D L Sachdeva, general secretary, All India Trade Union Congress said a solution would emerge if Maruti takes the suspended workers back. However amid all the chaos the company spokesperson just announced that production had resumed at Manesar pant now and the company manufactured 300 Swift cars. He declined to comment on the status of the negotiations. The production was halted on Thursday as the workers at Suzuki Powertrain- the diesel engine manufacturing plant went on a strike.
