Soon we will have the second entrant in the micro SUV segment which Mahindra debuted with KUV100. It is known as Ignis!

Maruti officially announced that Ignis will be attending the upcoming 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, which is an absolute bliss! It will be the second contender in the micro SUV segment followed by KUV100’s launch which happened a couple of days ago. Though there is no formal declaration about the launch of Ignis in the country, but it is expected to be launched later this year. Recently we did a comparison of KUV100 with the B-segment hatches, let us see how it fares with upcoming Ignis!

Mahindra KUV100 VS Maruti Suzuki Ignis

Ignis is expected to get tried and testest engines from the Maruti’s line-up like the Fiat’s 1.3l MultiJet diesel and Suzuki’s punchier 1.2l VTVT petrol, both 4-cylinder! Ignis shares its platform with Baleno and is most likely to be lighter than KUV100, thus resulting in better fuel efficiency of both petrol and diesel. The KUV100, on the other hand, uses Mahindra’s new 1.2l 3-cylinder mFalcon petrol and diesel engines, both the motors are fairly efficient with diesel returning an ARAI certified 25+ kmpl. Moreover, both the vehicles are expected to get an AMT (Automated-Manual Transmission) option in future. Moreover, Ignis will also feature a 4WD option in the global markets. However, 4WD version's possibility in India is extremely low.

Mahindra KUV100 is loaded well, while it is obvious that Ignis will also be loaded to the brim as it is likely to borrow features from Maruti’s latest offering Baleno. Ignis may outsell KUV100 in terms of features. Because the production-spec version which debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show, featured Suzuki’s SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system and an auto climate control AC.

At the end of the day, it all boils down to pricing and Mahindra has priced it quite competitively. If Maruti prices it like it did with Baleno, Ignis could dent the sales of KUV100, which is yet to be seen how the market accepts it!
