Reveals the technology and roadmap for the next generation of electric vehicles
Mahindra Electric, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mahindra and Mahindra Group, today unveiled new technology and roadmap for the next generation of electric vehicles. The company has tagged the movement as EV 2.0. Under this project, the homegrown auto major will not only make investments to boost manufacturing and charging infrastructure but also develop new, high-end electric powertrains, motor controllers, systems integration and battery technology.
If that’s the case, the future of mobility sounds extremely exciting. The company aims to build on it being the only mass producer of electric vehicles (EV) in the country, with three EVs currently on sale - e2o Plus hatchback, e Verito sedan and the e Supro commercial van.
At the press conference, Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd and chairman, Mahindra Electric, said, “The time has now arrived for EVs to become mainstream and Mahindra has the right technology and products for India. We will actively engage with the Government, both at the centre and the state, municipal bodies and other private players for setting up a robust EV ecosystem. We are also ramping up our investments towards developing the next generation of EV technologies and products that will cater to the smart cities of tomorrow.”
Mahesh Babu, CEO, Mahindra Electric, further added that with EV 2.0, the company has laid out a clear plan for electric mobility in India. It is at par with what is available globally and will fit well in India for the next phase of EV journey.
To achieve its goals, the company is connecting with other ecosystem stakeholders, both public and private. It will help Mahindra’s goal of faster adoption of electric vehicles in India. With its peers, the Mumbai-based auto giant will help in setting up the much-required EV charging infrastructure and will also focus on fleet operations.
This initiative from Mahindra comes soon after the think tanks of the country announced that India is targeting to be a 100 per cent EV country by 2032. Although that sounds challenging in a country as massively populated and widespread as India, Mahindra surely has put the stepping-stone to march on.
