Few days back, it was confirmed that Volkswagen (abbreviated as VW) German auto manufacturer and Suzuki, the Japanese auto maker are likely to join hands and may announce its plans to launch a car and also design engines. But, with the new updates it is heard that VW is planning to bring in the family Maruti A-star and wishes to put the new baby under Volkswagen Polo. The German company was looking for an entry level car which will placed below Volkswagen Polo, as the hatchback covers 70 per cent of the Indian market. VW had always planned to set themselves in the small car segment. It was its white space which the company was eagerly wanting to fill up.

If the grapevine is to be believed, the car will come with very less changes and will be launched in 2012. The main difference which is expected that it will come in petrol engine which will be highly powerful and fuel efficient. Well, the Maruti A-Star AT which was unveiled in August has 3 cylinder engine which ensures great performance in the hatchback cars. As per the sources, Volkswagen will not drop the large engine of the A-Star as it is engineers marvel in the small car. It is being speculated that Volkswagen may create a 1.0 litre diesel engine but it still to be found out where the engine will come from. The Maruti A-Star in India is the first eco friendly car because when the car was manufactured it did not use materials such as cadmium, wise mercury and lead. The car comes in petrol engine of 998 cc displacement, is available in four versions with manual transmission and automatic transmission and is priced between Rs 3.56 lacs to Rs 4.34 lacs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Maruti-Star is affixed with 3 cylinder, MPFi system and KB series engine. The hatchback model gives the fuel mileage of 14 kmpl and offer a power of 67 bhp at 6200 rpm. The cabin is spacious with elegant features. The Maruti A-Star is well equipped with advanced features but still has not able to capture the Indian auto market whereas its rival Hyundai i10 in the same segment has won a major chink of the market.
