The recent spy shots reveal that the Maruti Suzuki is ramping-up the final testing of its new 793cc diesel engine. Touted to be the smallest diesel engine in a passenger car in the country; the hatch will be certainly the most fuel efficient car in India! Focusing on capacity of the engine, the fuel economy figures are expected to range in between 25-30km/l, maybe above 30km/l mark!
This is the Maruti Suzuki's new indigenously developed diesel engine, the common rail direct injection motor makes close to 50bhp of max power. While the torque is expected to be in the vicinity of 140-150Nm. The Celerio petrol weighs 810kg, though diesels are usually heavier than their petrol counterparts but being a 800cc small unit expect the Celerio diesel to gain nearly 70-80kg, moreover with the increased torque the car is certainly the modest when it comes to driveability.
Furthermore, the Celerio diesel will follow Maruti's nomenclature as far as variants are concerned; the leaked spy-shot is of top-of-the-line Celerio ZDI. Like its siblings other two variants will be LDI and VDI. Also, seeing the success of the AMT (Automated-Manual transmission) Maruti is likely to introduce the diesel Celerio with AMT, making it the most economical automatic in the country. The launch of Celerio diesel will be after three months, as of now, the next in the pipeline for Maruti is the SX4 replacement Ciaz which will be launched in the first week of September.
