Maruti Suzuki India is now eyeing on fetching about 40% of the market share this fiscal year. In the month of October last year, firm’s market share dropped down to 29% after a massive loss of production of about 106000 units. Maruti India is also pretty confident about the fact that four of its popular models will gain the first four spots on the list of top five selling cars in India. Maruti’s star hatch Swift has already outshone Hyundai i10 this fiscal. Maruti India crawled back into the Indian car market by making its share go up to 38.5% in February and it also managed to recover its bulk production loss.

This recovery was aided with the launch of new Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift Dzire. On the other hand, Maruti India’s 38.5% of market share is the highest this year, which is still less than 44.7%, which was in last fiscal year. However, to Maruti India’ s surprise, Maruti Alto retained its tag of being the top selling car in India by selling about 273000 units from April 2011 to February 2012. Maruti Swift grabbed the second rank on the race leaving behind Hyundai i10. Maruti Wagon R stood third with around 132000 units, whereas Hyundai i10 sales were approximately 113000 units this financial year. There was also a close call between Tata Indica who secured the fifth rank with 94300 units and Maruti Swift Dzire with 93600 units sold in last 11 months.

Taking into account the new Maruti Swift Dzire sales in Feb 2012, it sold about 15068 units, which is pretty more than Tata Indica which stands at 10424 units. Maruti executives are confident that it will also take up the fifth slot as well by the end of this month. As per the CGM of marketing of Maruti India, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, in 2011 out of five top selling cars, Maruti grabbed the top four spots and hopefully this year, the top four positions will again be secured by Maruti India.  Despite of the drop of 11% in its sales this fiscal year because of the strike, Maruti managed to sell around 1.27 million Maruti cars last fiscal year.
