Maruti gears up to accelerate production

Maruti Suzuki India is at its heels to recover its profits, now as the labour unrest has ceased at Manesar plant and company is back to full fledged production. Maruti India officials are working day in and day out to roll out highest number of cars in October. The negative growth figures in the September sales report have already put Maruti India in the odd man out situation unlike all other small as well as big players in car market who managed to book their profits decently. But the company is now in healing mood and is racing ahead to clock in highest production figures. Production had deteriorated by a quarter (24%) in July-September period, the steepest percentage decline in the company's 29-year history.

The waiting period for deliveries continued to pile up especially for its hatchback Maruti Swift for which the waiting list has grown to about 1,08,000 customers. Maruti India is also reeling under pressure to save its domestic market share that plunged under 40% for the first time ever in this fiscal, forcing it to focus on new product launches. However, a company spokesperson has announced that the production at Manesar is expected to double in October, of which 17,000-18,000 will comprise of Maruti Swift alone. After rolling out a total of 73,000 cars in September, Maruti India has chalked out the fixed production targets for this month at 30-40% higher than September. He also said that the company is streamlining operations of its Gurgaon plant and two plants in Manesar to roll out maximum cars to meet domestic demand and export commitments

A company official tensed over the waiting period for the new Swift said that it varies between three and six months for the petrol variant in most cities and up to 10 months for the diesel variant. As a special effort to meet this exceptional demand of Maruti Swift hatchback, the company will also roll it out from Gurgaon facility for some time before its dedicated production shifts back to the Manesar plant. Even Maruti Swift Dzire and Maruti SX4 needs to be produced in greater decree as they have their diesel variants also. The company is also gearing up to meet the festive demand for the Maruti Alto, Maruti Wagon R and Maruti A Star hatchbacks in October and November.
