Country’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India has been a target of multiple unrests of late. The company’s flagship model Maruti Swift sales have been drastically hit due to the prolonged waiting period. However, MSI is working hard to cut down the backlog of the Swift model by ramping up its production to upto 20,000 units a month in the coming few months. The management is hopeful to meet the demands by April, with Manesar’s second plant to come handy to fill the gap between the demand and supply.

The continuous labour unrests at the plant have increased the waiting period of the new Maruti Swift to over nine months. The production of Maruti Swift was divided between the Manesar and the Gurgaon manufacturing plants since the labour unrests spurted out in June, this year. Presently, the Manesar plant A produces 1200 units from two shifts put together, while the production at Plant B is far behind at just 200 units.

However, MSI envisages reaching the 800-900 unit output by January, once all the differences between the management and the workers are ironed out. MM Singh, the Executive Managing Director of Production at MSI had said that a fixed number of 2,100 units a day will help the company to clear off the backlog and will lessen their burden. The company is aggressively hiring skilled labour to have the production at the plant B in full-Swing. This will also help the management to shift back the production of Maruti Swift to Manesar plant entirely sticking to the earlier pattern.
