Maruti India faces huge loss due to strike at Manesar plant

As reported earlier, Maruti India is facing huge setbacks due to strike at Maruti's Manesar plant. With strike at Manesar-Gurgoan unit entering sixth day, company is still seeking solution. Company officials announced that they are facing huge losses everyday, estimating Rs. 150 crore and 4,500 units till Thursday.

As per reports, Maruti’s proposed launch of the facelift Maruti Swift is already delayed. Further sources revealed that due to ongoing strike, company is on the verge of surpassing the waiting period of 2,600 Maruti Swift models, which is 4 months. Also, the launch of new Maruti Swift which was earlier scheduled for a mid-year release is now expected to touch road till or after the festive season.

Adding to the worries, the waiting period of other cars like Maruti Swift Dzire and Maruti SX4 diesel is expected to increase further. Also with complete shut down of unit, the car parts manufactured at Manesar are most likely to supply only till end of this month.Moreover, due to ongoing strike, auto parts vendors are forced to shut down the units, besides piling up inventory of auto parts. An official report indicates that approximately 250 units which were supplying parts to Maruti's Manesar plant have been badly affected.

The reason behind the strike is said to be the worker’s demand of forming a new union which is not accepted by management. Company spokesperson said that Company is not at all in favor to accept the workers demand for new Union.Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India, R C Bhargava said that the company wants to resolve the issue as soon as possible but will not do anything which indicates that they are going to compromise on ethics. Also, latest report suggests that representatives from the unions at Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), Hero Honda, Rico Auto, AITUC and CITU are also joining the strike.
