The agitation of newly formed Maruti Suzuki Employees Union (MSEU) to register itself still continues. It may throw a bolt in the work of Haryana government's efforts to bring peace between the management and agitating workers. The management of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) agreed to reappoint 11 employees, who had allegedly incited the protest. However, MSIL has reduced the penalty under the ‘no-work-no-pay’ policy, but refused to agree to the main demand for a new labour union. MSEU’s general secretary, Shiv Kumar, said that they applied for forming a new union on June 3 in Chandigarh. Once the application is approved, the union would be formed.

The major issue for 13 day strike at the Manesar unit was the management's refusal to approve a second union. Workers at the Manesar facility claim that in the existing union, Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union (MUKU), employees from the company’s Gurgaon facility are more prominent and they dont address their issues. They, therefore, want independent union.

Gurudas Dasgupta, general secretary, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), told that Manesar plant do not require the management’s permission to form a new union so they have already applied for registration. MSEU’s plan to register itself may face a hurdle on the ground of government's approval as chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has assured Managing Director Shinzo Nakanishi  that a second union would not be accepted. D L Sachdev, secretary, AITUC, said that If Hooda rejects the application then they will take the issue to the high court.
