Maruti has unveiled its micro-SUV concept, Ignis, at the ongoing 2016 Auto Expo. When launched, this car will rival Mahindra’s KUV100, the only other vehicle in this newly formed segment. Ignis comes in 2WD and 4WD system globally and is facilitated by hill descent and a rough terrain system. Considering the Indian market, the car is least likely to be offered in 4WD and only 2WD version is expected to be offered. Moreover, Mahindra KUV100 comes with an extra seat (6-seater car), giving it a slight edge over Maruti’s offering.
The India bound Ignis is anticipated to with a 1.3L MultiJet diesel engine, capable of generating a maximum power of 74 bhp with peak torque of 190 Nm. The petrol engine, on the other hand, is expected to be a 1.2L VTVT mill. Speaking of transmission options, a 5-speed manual is expected to be deployed, with the petrol version getting an optional CVT automatic.
Ignis is 3,700 mm long, 1,660 mm wide and 1,595 mm tall. It gets a sizeable ground clearance of 180 mm, keeping in mind the SUV character. The wheelbase measures 2,435 mm and the car gets a boot volume of 258 litres. It can be increased to 415 litres, provided the rear seats are folded. On the inside, Ignis is most likely to get Suzuki’s SmartPlay 7-inch infotainment system along with automatic climate control in India.
