Maruti Suzuki taking liberal view, agrees on new union

Suffering from heavy production and revenue losses from the past 11 days due to ongoing strike of workers, India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki on Tuesday agreed to give recognition to the separate worker’s union at Manesar plant. Reports have also come in that the company is going have a liberal view now and would reinstate the remaining six workers who were dismissed on June 6. Five workers have already been reinstated by the company.

According to latest reports, Maruti India said that company is planning to re-start the production even if the ongoing strike continues and problem is not resolved quickly. Moreover, company is also thinking of shifting a part of production to its Gurgaon factory.SY Siddiqui, Maruti Suzuki's head of HR said that company was not against the formation of separate unions for Manesar and Gurgaon Facility but they should comprise of only Maruti Suzuki workers. He further added that company had already told its view to the workers and Maruti India will talk with an open mind.

He also commented that the controversial issue of allowing non-Maruti workers as office bearers will be discussed and resolved after proper negotiations.Replying to the issue of re-instating the 11 sacked workers, SY Siddiqui said that Maruti India is considering the issue in a liberal and sympathetic manner. He further added that the company can’t allow hampering of the internal working environment by any means.

It is worth mentioning that due to ongoing strike, production of Maruti India’s key car models like Maruti Swift hatchback and Maruti Dzire and Maruti SX4 sedan cars is heavily obstructed. Moreover, company fears that the waiting line of car models will further grow and consumers might drift towards rival company cars. Therefore, Maruti India is seeking options to start the production even if the strike continues.
