Maruti Swift, the hot hatch of Maruti India can breathe with respite now. The No. 1 car maker of India, Maruti Suzuki India is mulling to raise the production of Swift by more than 40% to meet the growing demand of the car. The booking of Maruti Swift has reached an unimaginable figure of 1,08,000 units and Maruti India will start its manufacturing in full swing since the row between management and workers has ended now. About 17,000 Maruti Swift cars can be produced in a month if the company follows this plan.

Till date, Maruti India has rolled out a maximum of 12,000 units a month. The new production target will raise the bar of company’s production abilities. Maruti India will also resume normal production of Maruti SX4 sedan and Maruti A-star models. To bring this in effect, the complete production activities relating to Maruti Swift will shift to Manesar from Gurgaon where temporary production was taking place. In the next few weeks, the company will start full-fledged manufacturing operations at its second assembly plant in Manesar. Maruti India will then save a lot of logistics which was spent on moving panels from Manesar to Gurgaon for car assembly.

Maruti India has suffered a loss of Rs 660 crore in one month of labour unrest at Manesar unit. The September sales report sings another woeful story about the company and with more than 1 lakh bookings, the current waiting period for the Swift hatchback is eight to nine months. With increased supplies, Maruti Suzuki India expects to reduce the waiting time by at least a couple of months.
