Maruti to shift production to second plant at Manesar

Maruti India has suffered enough losses due to workers' agitation at its Manesar plant but now the company is in no mood of compromise with the work force unless they sign the good conduct bond. In fact Maruti India on Thursday, announced that they would be starting their second plant at Manesar in a day or two. The new plant will have a production capacity of 250,000 units per annum. With the start-up of this new plant a total of 6 lakh cars will roll out of Manesar plant every year.

Maruti India has suffered an estimated production loss of about 2,400 units, valued at around Rs 120 crore till Tuesday. The company's hot hatchbach Maruti Swift is on a long wait list all over India. Even then the company is investing 1700 crore in the second plant which was expected to start after a month. Maruti India now enjoys the support of Haryana Government also in its decision to not hold any negotiations with workers even as the agitation crosses its fourth day. The production stopped on Monday when the workers allegedly sabotaged the production and quality after which the company terminated the services of many employees and were not allowed to enter the company unless they sign a good conduct bond.

As of now, the company is working on a makeshift basis. A 100 cars were rolled out on Thursday with a fresh batch of 180 experienced and ITI trained workers joining the production activities. They have taken the toll of fresh recruits at the Manesar plant to about 300. Another 50 engineers from its Gurgaon factory have been deployed with 290 supervisors to strengthen production at the plant. In total, there are around 680 trained people involved with the production.
