Maruti to temporarily close two factories on Friday

Maruti Suzuki India had been in news continuously for its ongoing strike at their Manesar plant. The latest reports confirm that the MSI will have two of its factories closed down on Friday due the strike at the Suzuki Powertrain plant, which is the engine supplier for MSI. The 18 days strike at the MSI factories is now spreading to its sister concerns that includes Suzuki Powertrain for one.

The Suzuki powertrain is owned by the Japanese auto brand with 70% stakes that supplies 300,000 engines to MSI. 40% of the engines produced goes to the Suzuki Motors. The strike at the Suzuki powertrain has been triggered after the management of MSI did not come in terms with the employees for a prolonged period. The employee stand-off had begun on August 29th, when the MSI had asked the workers to sign the good conduct bond before entering into the company premises.

The labour unrest at the plant had hindered the production of MSI's top-selling models including Maruti Swift, however it has reached the initial production of 500 units recently. Around 1500 of MSI's employees had staged a rally in Gurgaon to seek the intervention of district authorities to smooth out the differences. Since the differences between the company and the worker's began, 5 permanent employees had been laid-off, 26 workers suspended and 18 trainees had been discontinued.
