In recent years, the SUV segment has witnessed tremendous growth thanks to better practicality and road presence. This segment received a new member in the form of the Hyundai Venue in May this year. Following its launch, the Venue was successful in striking the right chord with Indian car buyers and witnessed a huge demand right off the bat. In fact, it outsold the former king of the segment, the Maruti Vitara Brezza, for two months consecutively. However, Maruti has managed to reclaim the top spot in the sub-4 metre SUV segment by selling over 10,000 units of the Brezza in the month of September. Here’s how all the sub-compact SUVs fared in terms of sales in September 2019:

Takeaway
Maruti Vitara Brezza: The Vitara Brezza holds the highest market share of over 37 per cent. Its month-on-month (MoM) figures witnessed a growth of almost 46 per cent, clearly indicating its dominance in the segment. It regained the top spot last month once again.
Tata Nexon: Even though Tata managed to ship 2,000-odd units of the Nexon, the SUV still witnessed a downfall in its year-on-year (YoY) market share by over 7 per cent. It currently holds a market share of a little over 10 per cent.
Ford EcoSport: The EcoSport’s MoM numbers saw a growth of almost 9 per cent, yet it failed to go past the SUV’s average six month sales figures. However, it still ranks third in terms of popularity.
Mahindra TUV300: One of the two Mahindra offerings in the segment, the TUV300 is the least-preferred sub-4m SUV and holds a market share of a mere 3.58 per cent. Its MoM figures went down by a little over 6 per cent.
Mahindra XUV300: The XUV300 is the second-worst affected SUV in the segment. However, its MoM figures witnessed the least decline as compared to those of the TUV300 and the Venue. It currently commands a market share of almost 9 per cent.
Hyundai Venue: Even though the Venue is the second most popular SUV in its segment, its MoM figures saw the worst decline of almost 15 per cent. However, it still holds the second-highest market share of over 28 per cent.
