Jeep further strengthens the off-road abilities of the already brutal Compass Trailhawk with the new Tailpass concept SUV
Jeep has yet again revealed its concepts for the annual Easter Jeep Safari. For the uninitiated, this event stretches for a week and is held yearly in Moab, Utah, USA, where diehard off-road enthusiasts enjoy serious off-roading on some of the most challenging trails. This year it will be the 51st Annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari (April 8-16)!
Of late, Jeep has become more important for the Indian market as it will soon launch its first mass-market, made-in-India SUV, the Compass. Out of the seven concepts that the American off-road carmaker has revealed for the Jeep Safari, the Trailpass might excite Indian enthusiasts the most as it is based on the upcoming Compass.
The Trailpass concept is based on the production-spec Compass Trailhawk, which is the most extreme 'Trail-Rated' version of the stock Compass. To begin with, the Trailpass rides higher off the ground as opposed to the Tailhawk (215mm GC), courtesy a 38mm lift kit. Also, it flaunts 18-inch wheels with orange highlights, which are wrapped in Continental TerrainContact all-terrain tyres.
Visually, it stands out from the Trailhawk, thanks to the addition of the Jeep roof basket, cross rails and rock rails. Further, it features gloss black ORVMs, a custom hood graphic, side stripes, tinted headlamps and tail lamps, and a Mopar/Thule roof basket with roof bag and traction mats as well. On the inside, the Trailpass concept gets custom Katzkin leather seats and armrests, body-colour bezel accents and Jeep Performance Parts all-weather floor mats. Mechanically, it gets the same engine as the Trailhawk version – the 2.4-litre Tigershark petrol, which is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The Indian-spec Jeep Compass will be revealed on April 12. It is expected that the Trailhawk version of the SUV, on which the Trailpass concept is based, will be offered in the country as well. Also, we are likely to see several Mopar accessories for this SUV and other vehicles as FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) might also introduce its Mopar performance/customization parts brand in India, which was showcased at the 2016 India Auto Expo. Stay tuned to CarDekho for more updates on the upcoming Compass.
