Mercedes Benz India, the top selling luxury car company in the country seems to be quite cautious from its rivals Audi, which is aiming to reach ace position in Indian luxury market, and BMW. Thus, the company is going forward with introduction and modification within its top end models. The Mercedes Benz S-Class only saloon to be assembled in India will get another shot in the arm as the company has just given the Mercedes Benz S-Class a brand new entry level variant called the Mercedes Benz S300L.

The S300L Saloon will now sit at the bottom of the S-Class’s burgeoning portfolio at a price tag well under Rs 80 lakh, which makes it the least priced super luxury saloon in India. While Mercedes S350L petrol automatic is available at Rs 85.57 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), S300L is likely to be Rs 10,000 cheaper than it. The S300L will feature a 3 liter, 228 Bhp-300 Nm engine. Albeit this engine cannot be compared to the diesel engine of S500L but will be able manage to get the job done quite nicely. With the Mercedes Benz S500L, the company has played with the engine replacing a 5.5 litre, 369 bhp-500 Nm petrol V8 engine with a 4.7 litre 429 bhp-700 Nm engine in order to make the saloon even faster.

With the bringing of torque down, the driving of S500L will improve a ton and fuel efficiency will rise by a massive 22%. The new 4.7 litre engine in this 2 ton saloon uses direct injection and will be force fed with twin scroll turbochargers, thus leading to leaps in the power and torque as well as the fuel economy numbers. This engine is capable of sipping petrol as frugally as 1 liter per 10 km. While these changes are still speculative, Mercedes Benz is planning to introduce the new variants in a soft launch with not much frolic. The immediate rivals of Mercedes Benz S Class namely the BMW 7 Series and the Audi A8 Saloons will have a tough time after the introduction of these variants. Both the companies import their cars as Completely Built Unit from oversees. Only Mercedes Benz has its assembly unit in India which gives it an upper hand over other two in case of cutting-edge prices.
