Mercedes-Benz has invested Rs. 150 crore for the extension of Chakan facility to assemble new line of compact vehicles
Mercedes Benz CLA’s bookings has started, the compact luxury sedan is scheduled to launch on 22nd of January. Furthermore, the German automaker has reportedly invested Rs. 150 crore in its Chakan, Pune manufacturing facility to house new assembly lines. With the current investment, the company has invested a total of nearly 1000 crore in its manufacturing facility.
Mercedes-Benz India managing director Eberhard Kern, stated, "We have received the environment clearances from the government and will soon begin production from this extended facility."
Mercedes Benz brought several products last year including increasing its AMG performance portfolio. And indeed Merc has recorded a highest ever sales in India of 10,201 units in 2014; a 13 per cent rise compared to Jan-Dec 2013 sales. Furthermore, the local assembly of products has drastically reduced the price of the vehicles. At present, MB assembles C, E and S Class in India along with SUVs - GL and M Class. Adding on this context, with the plant extension, Merc is likely to initiate local assembly of its compact luxury brigade - A, B, GLA and the upcoming CLA sedan. Local assembly will help these products to compete well in their segment when it comes to pricing. Moreover, company is also planning to launch 15 more products in 2015, expect local assembly of few!
