Tata has finally launched the highly anticipated and more powerful version of Safari Storme at a price of Rs 13.52 lacs (ex-showroom). Mechanically, this version is powered by Varicor 400 2.2 liter 4 cylinder engine and is able to deliver 25% extra torque (peak of 400 Nm) as compared to the previous one. It also gets an improved gearbox and churns out a maximum power of 156 PS. However, the latest upgradation is available only with VX trim (in 4×2 configuration) while 4x4 variant is expected to get the same at a later stage.
If figures are a better parameter to judge the performance, then new Safari Storme surely steals the show. The SUV will be able to do 0-100 kmph in just 12.8 seconds, which is one whole second lesser than the previous version (Varicor 320 engine) of Storme. Even in a smaller comparison (0-60 kmph), the upgraded version is approximately 0.5 seconds faster than the Varicor 320 engine.
Tata had already added some tweaks earlier this year to enhance the overall appeal of this vehicle and with the power toppings, Storme has now become a more value for money product. Although the price for the newer model is higher by INR 40,000 (approx.), the overall package with a more powerful engine and efficient gearbox makes it lucrative for the buyer.
