Ford India, one of the fastest growing companies in the Indian market, is now focusing on expending its capacity and distribution network in the country. The company is gearing up to take the number of its dealerships to 200 from the existing 167, by the end of this financial year. The company has received more than 24,000 bookings for its recently launched compact hatchback Ford Figo in India. It has delivered more than 17,000 units of Figo in the Indian market.
To decrease the continuously increasing waiting period for Figo in India, the company has started a second shift at its production facility located at Maraimalainagar in Chennai. Mr Nigel Wark, executive director, marketing, sales and service, Ford India, had recently said in a statement that Figo has done extremely well across various markets in India. He added that the sales targets exceeded expectations and now the company is looking at adding more numbers.
The robust sales of Figo in India has boosted the company's growth figures, as it reported a jump of 235 per cent in its sales during the period of Jan-Jun 2010 when compared to the sales during the same period last year. The company sold a total of 32,755 units of its cars in India during this period as compared to 13,897 units last year. The high growth momentum for Ford was not limited to big cities as it performed considerably well in comparatively less volume generating cities like Ahmadabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Kochi, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Indore and Bhopal. The company currently has an installed production capacity of 2,00,000 units per annum at its Chennai plant.
Moreover, the company dispatched an export consignment of 1200 units of Figo model to South African market.
