It was recently spotted completely undisguised in South Africa

Rumours about the all-new Volkswagen Polo have been doing rounds all over the Internet for quite a while now. There had been reports about the new-gen VW Polo being spotted testing in Germany and this time around, clearer photographs of the next-gen Volkswagen Polo have emerged from South Africa.

The new Polo will ride on Volkswagen’s smallest version of the flexible MQB platform, which is capable of housing a transverse, front-engined front-wheel-drive with an option of a four-wheel-drive automobile structure. Thanks to this new platform, the next-gen Polo is expected to be around 70kg lighter and larger in dimensions than the current model. This translates to a more spacious cabin, which in the current-gen Polo is just about adequate.

In terms of looks, the overall subtlety of Volkswagen design elements has been retained. Volkswagen has, as seen in these photographs, managed to refresh the Polo’s looks, without loosing its conservative persona. It has newly designed headlamps and front grille, protuberant character lines running along the side profile and new taillamp design as well.

The new-gen Polo is expected to make its global debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, which is also known as the International Motor Show. The event will open its gates on September 14, 2017 but before that, Volkswagen is likely to begin the production of the new Polo in June this year.

Once it breaks cover, the new Polo will first be launched in the European market, followed closely by the American and the Asian markets. We expect it to reach our shores in the later half of 2018.
