Nissan recalls 1.3 lakh cars over airbag fault

Nissan, Japan based leading car maker has recalled more than 130,000 units of its Infiniti G35 model sedan and coupes on Tuesday, due to a possible fault in car's airbag system. The incident added one more recall by a Japanese car maker in a series of vehicle recalls of past months, which includes recall of more than 8 million vehicles by Toyota Motors in US and a worldwide recall by Honda.
The Nissan group said in a statement that, on a small percentage of the potentially affected vehicles, a harness connector issue could cause the passenger air bag to shut off.
The Company is in the final stage of launching its much awaited small compact car Nissan Micra in India, by the end of this month. The Nissan Micra will be competing with some of the most popular cars in India, including Maruti Swift and Ritz, Ford Figo, Skoda Fabia, Volkswagen polo, Chevrolet Beat and Fiat Punto.
Nissan is also in the process of launching a new ULC (ultra low cost) car in India in partnership with Bajaj and Renault. The ULC car will be launched with a price tag of Rs 1.1 lakh ($2500), and will be manufactured at Bajaj's domestic platform of two and three wheelers. Where the Bajaj will be taking care of designing and manufacturing, of this car the Renault-Nissan alliance will be doing marketing and promotion.
