Skoda Rapid is the Skoda’s new sedan

Skoda Rapid will pose in Indian market soon. After a great deal of confusion with the name of this car by Skoda India, it is finally confirmed that the car will be called Skoda Rapid and not Skoda Lauretta as it was thought to be. Skoda, a subsidiary firm in Volkswagen, has manufactured Skoda Rapid on the platform of Volkswagen Vento. Skoda Rapid is going to incorporate the same engine as added in VW Vento-1.6 litre petrol or a 1.6-litre TD CR engine recently introduced on the VW Vento mated to dual transmission modes (Auto/Manual). After the launch of Skoda Yeti- the SUV segment car, “Skoda Rapid” is next in-line. Skoda India is going to install some high-end tech specs in Skoda Rapid. The grille would be in line with Skoda’s new design theme while the fog lamps would be bigger or similar to the one in Skoda Superb.


Skoda Rapid will enter the fiercely occupied sedan segment where Volkswagen Vento, its distinct cousin, the Honda City, the Fiat Linea, the Hyundai Verna and the Ford Fiesta are already struggling hard. Only Skoda Rapid price can keep it buoyant in Indian car market. Expected to come with a tag of about Rs 7 lakh the price will come close to Maruti SX4 and much below Volkswagen Vento. Skoda India offers models like Skoda Laura and Skoda Fabia which are manufactured in India while Skoda Superb and Skoda Yeti which are imported to India. The company has discontinued Skoda Octavia model in 2010.
