Tata Zest Rolls Out of the Production Line; Launch Next Month

Tata has started the production of the Zest at their plant in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra with Fiat. The first batch of sedans have been rolled out of the production line while the launch is just a couple of weeks away! The online bookings of the compact sedan have already started with a sum of INR 21,000 both for petrol and diesel. Furthermore, as the Zest is entering into the hot selling entry level sub-4m sedan category, its major rivals will be Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and Hyundai Xcent.

So the major question arises, will Tata be able to conquer the segment which it first created but soon lost into the oblivion (remember Indigo CS)? Answer to this seems Zest. It looks a promising product when it comes to quality and features on-board while the engine department is taken care of by Fiat and the new Revotron turbo petrol. Furthermore, features like projector headlamps, day-time-LEDs, 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, voice controls, AMT, all these goodies makes Zest one of the best in the segment. However, prices will play a crucial role but let's see how it reflects in sales numbers.

Speaking of the engines, what it looks like Tata is certainly now at par with competitors with powerful petrol and diesel mills. On the petrol front, it gets a brand new 1.2L Revotron petrol featuring MPFI with turbocharger. It belts out 88.8bhp (90PS) of max power and 140Nm of peak torque mated to a five speed manual transmission.

On the diesel front, the Fiat derived 1.3L MJD dubbed as Quadrajet is on duty. The engine gathers 88.8bhp (90PS) of max power and a modest 200Nm of torque. The diesel offers 5-speed manual along with a segment first 'F-Tronic' Automated-Manual-Transmission (AMT). Diesel will certainly be the pick of the lot.
