Finally, the much anticipated compact sedan from Tata Motors will be launched on August 12. The booking of the compact sedan had commenced a few days ago for both diesel and petrol trims at an amount of INR 21,000. However, the Bolt hatchback will be launched soon after the Zest's arrival. Furthermore, Tata Zest will compete against the riling compact sedan segment with rivals like Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.
Designed in Europe and India, Zest looks attractive compared to its segment, as most of the compact sedan looks absurd from few angles. Moreover, Zest seems to be a compelling package with several segment-first features like projector headlamps, day-time-running-LEDs, multi-mode engine drive (City, ECO & Sports), 5-inch touch screen Harman powered infotainment system, all-turbocharged engines, etc. The pricing of the Zest will certainly be competitive compared to its rivals as Tata is a home grown manufacturer and the level of localization would be very high. Moreover, the manufacturer is betting high on this product as it is their first new product after the Safari Storme in 2012.
Mechanically, Zest comes powered by two engines – a 1.3-liter Fiat Multi-Jet derived Quadrajet turbo diesel engine that belts-out 88.8bhp (90PS) and 200Nm of max torque. The diesel trims are mated with a 5-speed manual and a segment-first 5-speed Automated-Manual-Transmission (AMT); becoming the most affordable automatic-diesel car in the country! The petrol mill of Zest is company's all-new 1.2-liter turbocharged ‘Revotron’ that is configured to generate 88.8bhp (90PS) and 140Nm of peak torque, while working with a 5-speed manual transmission.
