Toyota Motors introduced its most industrious project Toyota Etios, the entry level saloon recently and by April, 2011, the hatchback Toyota Etios Liva will follow the sedan. But now Toyota is considering to bring an all new multi utility vehicle (MPV) in the Indian auto market which will be developed on the Etios platform. Rumors suggest that it could be the Toyota Avanza, to be made available at a price ranging from INR 6 to 9 lac.
Vonce S Socco, Senior Vice President (Area Operations Division), Toyota Motor Asia Pacific, said that the company feels there is a white space between the sedan Toyota Etios and the SUV Toyota Innova. The Japanese auto maker is keen on bringing a new car and is searching for the same. He added that, if everything goes as per the plans, the MPV launch may happen in 2012 or later.

Toyota in past had stated during the Auto Expo in New Delhi in 2010 that it will introduce an all new MPV which will be placed below Toyota Innova in the domestic auto sector. When enquired about the car type, Socco replied that, the company has not finalized on it but Toyota is interested in bringing a MPV.
If the pages of the diaries are to be flipped, rumours were doing the rounds that Toyota will come with MPV Toyota Avanza in the Indian auto sector. But it looks like that Indian customers would have to wait from an announcement from the horse's mouth.

Currently Toyota Motors has market winners in its stable such as the premium SUV Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Innova that are doing quite well in the market. Toyota Camry too enjoys a great market share. Toyota Avanza holds grip in the Thai auto market presently. The Japanese auto maker will place the new MPV below Toyota Innova. If the sources are to be believed, Toyota Avanza, will be almost 25 per cent cheaper than the SUV Toyota Innova. The car will compete with Mahindra Xylo and Chevrolet Tavera.
It is being predicted that Toyota Avanza, will be powered with 1495 cc engine which is loaded in the Thailand bound MPV also. The new MPV is loaded with 1.5 litre petrol four cylinder, DOHC 16 valve powertrain suffixed with VVTi technology. With this engine the power the car will generate is 109 Ps at 6,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 141 Nm at 4,400 rpm.
