Toyota Qualis and Toyota Innova are Toyota's immensely popular and successful models and now the company is all set to rule the big car segment once again. Toyota had also launched SUV Toyota Fortuner recently in India which is a quite successful model in premium SUV segment.
It will soon launch a new but smaller MPV in India that will be placed below Toyota Innova and priced between Rs 6-8 lakh. Toyota currently holds 3 percent market share in India. Yet it has no plans to compete with Tata Motors or Maruti Suzuki by taking a short cut of generating sales volumes with small cars.
Although the company intends to bring its small car in India by 2011, it will increase its market share “the Toyota way”, says company spokesperson. During the Tokya Auto Show,Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) executive vice-president Yukitoshi Funo said that, We are going to take Toyota's traditional approach, which means targeting all segments of the market and becoming a major manufacturer but gradually.
Toyota has not revealed the name of the latest MPV model coming to India but it is expected to be Toyota Avanza which is already on sale in Thailand. Volkswagen Polo, Chevrolet Beat and Premier Rio are the coming soon in car market.
