The repercussions of the melancholic earthquake and tsunami in Japan has now started affecting auto giants. Toyota Kirloskar Motors India effective today have announced increase in the prices of its cars by Rs 20,000. However it has not increased the price of its recently launched sedan Toyota Etios. The apparent reason behind the hike in its car prices is the appreciation of the Japanese Yen which has lead to the rise in the car prices. Though Toyota has not given any reason behind the hike in the car prices. Another reason could be the increase in the raw material and production costs.

Toyota Kirloskar has commenced the construction of Toyota Etios' engine and transmission manufacturing unit located in Bidadi. This could be a probable reason the company has not increased price of Toyota Etios since the manufacturing of Toyota Etios' engine will take place in that facility in India therefore in long run Toyota will save money on that .

Toyota received a tremendous response for its new sedan Toyota Etios, hiking its price would have turned the situation. By keeping the Toyota Etios' price intact, the company has made sure that the popularity of the car is not affected.

Toyotas' cars such as Toyota Innova MPV will be costlier by INR 12,557 to INR 18,424, Toyota Corolla Altis Diesel by INR 14,100 to INR 17,700, Toyota Corolla Altis Petrol by INR 10,400 to INR 14,500 and finally 2011 Toyota Fortuner SUV will be expensive by INR 20,000.
