Customers across the globe associate reliability and high quality with Toyota cars and therefore trust it blindly as a brand. The Toyota cars however, do not speak a hep design language and the words like boring and uninspiring also revolve around the brand image. This Japanese car giant is now working on the design of its cars and plans to touch them with a tinge of style and flair that can appeal to the young generation. This change was a much-needed one as the rival brands were striking the market with more appealing, equally reliable and high quality models. Toyotais known as the ‘different’ brand not only because of its products but also because of its mode of operation.

The other major car brands like Volkswagen and Nissan are building versatile and sharable platforms that can be used the purpose of reducing production costs and development time which in turn would improve the profitability. Toyota on the other hand, has come up with a new cost-effective platform known as the Toyota New Global Architecture or TNGA platform that is expected to hint the Toyota cars with an element of desire making them something more than just a mode of transport. Toyotainstead of getting into the small cars business like Nissan with its new brand Datsun, is planning on sticking with advancing its cars in terms of technology and looks.

Technology has always been Toyota’s forte and it is the best among the lot but when it comes to the style statement of its cars, Toyota needs to work a bit harder than just making lofty declarations.  Toyota could be advised to read a chapter from Hyundai’s book of Fluidic design or to follow the Kinetic design concept of Ford. The TNGA technology will be used on the front wheel drive cars which will improve the handling by lowering the centre of gravity. This technology is also supposed to reduce the production cost by parts sharing. Finally with the help of this technology, Toyota can change the image of its cars from being boring to being delighting.
