Toyota eyes to regain top spot

Toyota Motors which lost its position from the top to the third in the global sales, has now decided to look forward towards the growing auto markets around the globe to regain its position, a top executive of Toyota India said in a report. Reports revealed that the company’s sales figure got down by 11% in the first half of the year, as it was able to sell out only 3.7 million cars in the time period from January 2011 to June 2011.

The main reason behind the reduction in the sales was due to the earthquakes and Tsunami in the North Eastern parts of Japan. The main loss was during April- June in which the sales reduced to around 62 percent. At present the top position is secured by General Motors which was able to sell around 4.5 million cars in the first half of the year, at second position is the German company Volkswagen with the sales figure of 4.13 million in the same time period.

Sandeep Singh, the Managing Director of Toyota India said in reports that the growth which the company has seen in the market makes him believe that the company has taken the right decision. He also added that while his visit to the Toyota’s Tokyo office he realized that the problems due to the disaster in Japan were temporary and the company’s growth would remain similar as seen earlier.

Mr. Singh also said that the company is on the track for the goals that it has decided for the Indian market and is working on them with full zeal. The company’s main aim is not to sell its cars but to get the satisfaction if the customers. There are rumors in the market that the company would invest around $220 million on its manufacturing unit to increase the production capacity of its plant to 3, 10,000 cars by 2013 from 1,60,000 cars at present.The company also expects to see growth in the US markets just like India inspite of the recall fiasco.
