Toyota launched its first mass market strong-hybrid offering, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, in India and its deliveries are now underway. It was jointly developed with Maruti Suzuki who named its model the Grand Vitara.

Let us take a closer look at the entry-level strong-hybrid model from Toyota, the Hyryder S, in detail through the aid of pictures, as it is the most affordable strong-hybrid car you can buy right now in the country with an asking price of Rs 15.11 lakh (ex-showroom).
From the front, it looks no different to the top-spec V Hybrid. It gets a body-coloured bumper, LED DRLs and turn indicators on ORVMs, but misses out on the LED headlamps. Instead, it gets bi-halogen lamps but manages to keep the chrome plating.
On its sides, you can see body-coloured door handles, black pillars, 17-inch steel wheels with covers and a ‘Hybrid’ badge below the ORVMs. It does not sport the chrome beltline across the sides and roof rails like the G and V strong-hybrid variants. The colour in the images is Sportin Red and the Hyryder is offered with seven monotone and four dual-tone colour options.
The rear profile is the same as the top-spec variants, except for the exclusion of the rear wiper. It still gets the same chrome plate with the carmaker's logo, roof spoiler, shark fin antenna and the same LED tail lamps.
Inside, it gets a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment display (G and V come with a larger nine-inch unit) with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a seven-inch TFT instrument display, a black and brown dual-tone interior and four speakers, but misses out on a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, a head-up display and ventilated front seats compared to higher variants.
The S Hybrid also gets rear AC vents, steering-mounted audio controls, automatic climate control and cruise control. On the safety front, it gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control (VSC) and a rear parking camera.

The Hyryder S Hybrid is powered by a 1.5-litre strong-hybrid petrol powertrain churning out a combined output of 116PS and a maximum torque of up to 141Nm. This setup is paired with only an e-CVT that sends the power to the front wheels only. The Toyota Hyryder costs between Rs 10.48 lakh and Rs 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
