Toyota’s MPVs are always seen as a mark of reliability in the country. It all started with the Qualis, transferred to the Innova and now, has been adopted by the Crysta. What has changed this time is, Toyota has given a lot of character to the MPV through style, power and just too many features. We have covered the power and features of the car in a detailed review, this is where we talk about style aspect of the car. The car looks really impressive from both inside and out. It gives the owner a sense of premium-ness, and that being said about an MPV is really a big compliment.
Lets start from the outside. The new Innova Crysta is bigger in all the dimensions than the old Innova, keeping the wheelbase constant. These bigger dimensions make a huge difference in the road presence of the car. The Crysta look aggressive from the front, courtesy of the hexagonal front grille, bold two-slat chrome grille which nicely merges into the double barrel projector headlamps. Anyone noticing the car in the rear view mirror is bound to get distracted.
Even from the side, although it has the conventional MPV outline, Crysta manages to look refreshed. It has a nice shoulder line running from the front bonnet, all the way to the rear tail lamps. The wheel arches are also nice and big which accommodate seventeen-inch alloys. The side profile is just another happy reminder of the availability of space and increased dimensions of the car. The spoiler at the rear with the shark-fin antenna does reduce the MPV-ness of the car.
Its rear profile houses a large rear windscreen. The boot gate holds the boomerang like tail-lights and the big Toyota insignia. Also, the boot comes with a soft close function and hence, you don’t have to slam it shut. The bumpers are chunky and big with sleek reflector, which adds muscle to an already big boy. Overall, the rear is sober and will appeal to a certain set of buyers.
On the inside, the owner is welcomed with wood, leather and good quality plastic. The material used to put together the Crysta have been wisely selected and feels plush. If you nitpick, the only thing which might set you off is the plastic used in the lower half of the dashboard. The steering wheel is a beautiful unit. The instrument cluster is a 3D in nature and looks beautiful when lit up.
The infotainment screen in the dashboard looks well placed and has good ergonomics. The dual-zone climate control switches are placed partially facing up and are a treat to use. Below them are the drive mode switches which are also neatly laid out. The touchscreen unit is nice and bright, but the feel of the ‘touch’ is not up to the mark. Overall, it is a pleasant car to be in for long journeys. Watch the Toyota Innova Crysta first drive video to know more about the car.
Have a look at the detailed image gallery and tell us how you feel about the car.
