Few days back we have seen Toyota testing its stylish C-segment sedan, Vios, near its Bangalore plant. Though, its Indian launch is not confirmed as the manufacturer haven’t made any comments regarding its arrival here. Consequently, leading our thoughts to land on a conclusion that it may be launched by the end of this year or early 2016 at the Delhi Auto Expo. Looking into the fact that Vios is already on sale in certain Asian markets its debut in India doesn't seem far away. And the following five points are the reason for us to think that Vios will do as good as its competitors, yes, Ciaz , City and Verna.
Exteriors
The all new Vios is based on Toyota’s latest design language making it largely resemble its elder sibling Corolla Altis. Vios gets wide body stance, upswept headlamps, wide front airdam, prominent lines on the bonnet and sides. The rear too gets contemporary cues like a sharp-wide taillight cluster.
Interiors
Like its exteriors the insides too are derived from the Altis making them equally stylish as the exteriors. In other Asian countries Vios is offered in all black cockpit but the high average temperature of our country and our inclination towards lighter interior shades may lead Toyota to offer dual-tone black and beige. Moreover, the Thai-spec car is fully loaded with touchscreen infotainment system and latest design trims that we too are most likely to get.
Engines
Toyota may offer two motors in Vios viz. the 1.5 petrol from Etios and 1.4 litre D-4D diesel from Corolla Altis. Both the engine's are competitive enough compared to its rivals. The 1.5 liter petrol from Etios puts out 88.8 Bhp and 132Nm of torque while the diesel one from Corolla makes 87.2bhp and 205Nm torque.
Dimensions
Vios will be 4410mm long, 1700mm wide, 1475mm tall and will get a wheelbase of 2550mm, if the dimensions of the India-spec car are kept same as the Thai version. These will help it fare confidently against its competitors as it will be wider than Honda City, longer than Verna and sits a nick lower than Ciaz-in height. Though on the downside, its wheelbase is the lowest of this lot.
Price
This is one place where Toyota needs to be careful as it affects the overall demand in the end. Let’s say if Vios is priced around 7.5 to 10 lacs then it may cause some effective turbulence in this particular segment.
