Ford India quietly adds ABS and EBD to the standard equipment list
The Figo and the Figo Aspire are potent products from the house of American carmaker Ford. But neither of them have managed to touch the anticipated sales figures in their respective segments. To attract more customers, Ford India slashed prices for these cars in August 2016, which made them extremely good value for money. But this tactic didn’t work for the automaker, which still finds both of its least-expensive offerings way behind the competition.
Now though, Ford has quietly added anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) to the Trend variants in both Figo siblings. Dual airbags were already on offer on Trend variants but with the addition of upgraded braking system and no price hike, the Figo and the Figo Aspire become excellent value for their price tags. Ambiente variants of both the cars and Base variants of the Figo are the only versions that don’t get ABS and EBD.
While the Base and Ambiente variants of the petrol-powered Figo cost Rs 4.54 lakh and Rs 4.83 lakh respectively, the Trend variant is priced at Rs 5.23 lakh. The diesel-powered Base, Ambiente and Trend variants of the Figo are priced at Rs 5.63 lakh, Rs 5.92 lakh and Rs 6.33 lakh.
The Figo Aspire is competitively priced as well. While the petrol-powered Ambiente and Trend variants of the sub-4 metre sedan cost Rs 5.28 lakh and Rs 5.76 lakh respectively, the diesel-powered Ambiente and Trend variants are priced at Rs 6.38 lakh and Rs 6.86 lakh respectively (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
All carmakers in India are currently working to equip all their products with dual airbags and ABS as standard. This move comes in as the government is expected to make these features mandatory on all cars on sale. Currently, only Toyota and Volkswagen have an entire fleet of offerings in India that are equipped with dual airbags and ABS as standard. While Toyota upgraded its Etios and Etios Liva cars earlier this year with both the said safety features as standard across all variants, Volkswagen announced that all the variants of the Polo and Vento now come with ABS and dual airbags earlier this week.
