The Gurkha is now BSIV compliant, gets new steel front and rear bumpers
Force Motors has refreshed its Gurkha EOV (Extreme Off-road Vehicle) range in the country. The rugged machine now comes with both cosmetic as well as mechanical changes. Famed for its sumptuous power and impressive off-road run, the Gurkha is among the most preferred rally vehicles across the country. The updated Force Gurkha range starts from Rs 8.38 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is available in a choice of 3-door Xplorer and 5-door Expedition editions.
Taking cues from the Mercedes G-Wagen, the Gurkha certainly carries a rugged and timeless appeal. The Force Gurkha Xplorer comes in a 4x4 setup, whereas the Expedition edition gets a 4x2 arrangement. Both the versions are offered with an option of a soft-top and a hard-top. It continues to boast a long snorkel to keep its engine alive while wading through water bodies.
The 2017 Gurkha now entails differential locks on both axles, a new suspension setup and revamped steel front and rear bumpers with fog lamps. Under the hood, it gets a 2.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel motor that pumps out top power of 85PS and generates 230Nm of peak torque. Another good news about the new Gurkha is that it now is BSIV compliant! Yes, that means you can now buy it in any metro city in India. It is mated to a new 5-speed manual transmission.
The Gurkha Explorer gets the hard-top variant with AC, new center console and a four-spoke steering wheel apart from the new additions mentioned above. The Expedition, too, gets an air conditioning unit in its hard-top version. More inclined towards a family vehicle, the Expedition version has impressive space in the cabin with a capacity to seat eight passengers excluding the driver.
Force must be putting its bet on the BSIV compliant engine of the Gurkha as it now gets an entry in to the bigger cities of the country. Let’s see how the Gurkha performs in the market after a bad run of the Force One SUV.
