Volkswagen India rolls out 4,00,000th car from its Chakan Plant

The German manufacturer Volkswagen has rolled out the 400,000th car from the manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune. The 400,000th car from the VW stable is the Polo Highline which carries a 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine. The milestone is achieved in a period of five years. The manufacturing plant in Pune is built over an area of 575 acres with a total investment of Rs 3,800 crore giving employment to more than 3,500 people. The plant has a full capacity of manufacturing 1,30,000 vehicles a year.
The company started manufacturing cars from its Chakan plant in the year 2009 and since then it manufactured more than 4 lakh cars for both domestic as well as export market which include 32 countries in three different continents. At the manufacturing facility, the company produces VW Polo, VW Vento along with the sibling brand's car, Skoda Rapid.

Andreas Lauenroth, Executive Director–Technical said, “The roll out of the 400,000th car is a testimony of Volkswagen running its Indian productions in a higher gear without compromising our highest quality standards. With this achievement under our belt, we plan to keep moving forward with a greater thrust to position ourselves as a committed car manufacturer in the Indian market.”
The company in its latest endeavour in India, launched the Polo facelift at a starting price of INR 4.99 lakh. The car apart from cosmetic touch ups features a complete new engine lineup. Both the 1.2-litre and 1.6-litre engine in diesel model are discontinued and replaced with a fuel efficient 1.5-litre TDI engine, while the petrol model continues to carry the 1.2-litre TSI engine.
“With over 400,000 cars produced at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for the domestic as well as export market, we have firmly established our operations. We will continue to focus on productivity and further localisation to cater to the demand from our markets,”said Mr. Mahesh Kodumudi, President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd.
