Volkswagen Up or Lupo coming to India?

German auto mobile manufacturers Volkswagen is a well established name in India especially after it launched its hatchback Volkswagen Polo and the mid size sedan Volkswagen Vento in India. With the launch of these cars which are priced competitively in the domestic auto sector it is ready to further invest in the small car segment. It is being speculated Volkswagen, seeing the increasing returns from this particular segment in India VW is now keen on bringing another small car which will be placed under Volkswagen Polo. It is being learnt from the sources that the German auto company is planning to launch Volkswagen Lupo or Volkswagen Up.
The curtains were raised from the small car in 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, then it was decided that it will come with rear drive and rear engine. Recently a sneak peak of the small baby Volkswagen Lupo was seen in United States in August 2010. It was there learnt that it will come as a front-wheel-drive.
Volkswagen Lupo is expected to be engineered with 1.0 litre petrol mill or can also be equipped with Volkswagen Polo's 1.2 litre diesel or petrol powertrain. The small car measures 3.45m x1.63 m x 1.50 (length x width x height). It is being known that the small car will be unveiled in the Frankfurt Auto Show expected in September '11.
The company is eyeing to encash in the growing segment of ULC cars which has been opened with the entry of Tata Nano and Maruti 800. If the German engineers are able to craft the small car as per Indian requirement and VW rolls out the model, the new car model will offer better fuel economy and competitive price. Other than VW, it is known that other auto mobile biggies are also planning to come with a small car. General Motors disclosed that it will come with a small car in sub 1 litre option which will be positioned below Chevrolet Spark. Maruti the king in this segment is all set to lauch its first Made in India car in this segment, Fiat also wishes to try its hand in this small car segment.
