Volkswagen's premium Sedan 'Vento' to launch by Autumn'2010

Volkswagen, the German car major announced today that it will launch its new sedan Vento in India by the end of year 2010. The car would be shelved in the segment of Premium entry level sedans and is targeting to compete against the current ruler of the segment Honda City. Vento, meaning 'wind in Italian would be available in both Petrol and Diesel variants in India.
The manufacturing of the sedan would take place at the Chakan facility of the company, near Pune. In a recent statement Mr. Neeraj Garg, Volkswagen's Director, passenger cars said that the launch of Vento would be a milestone for the brand in India. He also added that the car has been designed keeping the Indian customers and their preferences in mind.
It is expected that both the Petrol and Diesel variants would sport a 1.6 L engine and would be up-for-grabs in both manual and automatic transmissions. Volkswagen Vento would be the second car from the company's stable that would target the mass-segment in India after the launch of Volkswagen Polo, a premium hatchback shelved at Rs 4.34 and Rs 6.70 lakh (ex showroom, Delhi).
The car however would be the company's 7th launch in India as currently the line-up for the company includes compact cars Beetle and Polo, premium sedans Phaeton, Passat and Jetta and sports utility vehicle Touareg in the country.
